LONDON – Former Alabama women’s tennis All-American Alexa Guarachi will play in her fifth consecutive Grand Slam after being selected to the 2019 Wimbledon Ladies’ Doubles draw with partner Sabrina Santamaria on Friday. The first round of the ladies’ doubles tournament will be held on July 3-4 at the All England Club at Wimbledon.
Guarachi and Santamaria will take on Desirae Krawczyk and Giuliana Olmos in the first round of play with the date and time to be announced. Most recently, the duo advanced to the quarterfinals of the Mallorca Open on June 20 in Mallorca, Spain. On June 24, Guarachi came in at No. 64 in the Women’s Tennis Association Doubles Rankings, her highest ranking of her professional career and the best ranking of any Alabama women’s tennis alumna. As an American-born Chilean player, she is also the No. 1 doubles player in South America.
This is Guarachi’s second-consecutive Wimbledon doubles appearance after making a first round exit last year with former Alabama player, Erin Routliffe. Guarachi has also made appearances in the 2019 French Open, 2019 Australian Open and the 2018 U.S. Open. Guarachi is still seeking her first win in a Grand Slam.
