DALTON, Ga. – The No. 21-ranked University of Alabama men’s golf team carded a 1-over par 289 during Saturday’s second round of the Carpet Capital Collegiate – the second-lowest round by any team in the 15-team field – to vault three spots up the leaderboard into third place overall. The Crimson Tide will enter Sunday’s final 18 holes of play with a 36-hole total of 585 (296-289).
Tournament-host and No. 3 Georgia Tech leads the field by 12 strokes at 7-under par 569, while North Florida is four strokes ahead of the Crimson Tide at 5-over par 581. Clemson (587), ranked No. 17 in the nation, is in fourth, while USF (589) rounds out the top five teams, respectively.
Alabama’s Wilson Furr shot 1-under par 71 and is in a tie at fourth overall (72-71/143). Frankie Capan III shot 3-under 69 and is tied for 11th (76-69/145). Thomas Ponder followed up his 1-over par 73 on Friday with an even par score of 72 and is tied with Capan for 11th. Tyler Lipscomb (75-79/154) and Simms Abney (81-77/158) round out the Alabama starting five in 53rd and 71st, respectively.
