BIRMINGHAM – Following just the second meet of her freshman year, Alabama gymnast Makarri Doggette was named the Southeastern Conference Specialist of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.

The Pinkerington, Ohio, native led Alabama to its best home-opening score in program history against No. 1 Oklahoma, a 197.400. Doggette posted three scores of 9.9 or better against the Sooners, including a 9.950 to win the uneven bars. She also posted a 9.925 on the floor exercise and a 9.900 on the balance beam.

Doggette’s score on the uneven bars pushed Alabama to a 49.425 team mark, it’s best total on the event since 2018. She is ranked No. 1 in the SEC on the uneven bars with a 9.912 average and has the highest score in the SEC with her 9.95 against Oklahoma.

Alabama returns to the road for its next meet, competing at the Metroplex Challenge on Saturday, Jan. 25 against Oklahoma, Georgia and Denver in Ft. Worth, Texas.
