COLUMBIA, Mo. – The Alabama baseball team received a standout pitching performance from junior starter Sam Finnerty on Friday, as the Crimson Tide defeated Missouri, 2-1, at Taylor Stadium.
Finnerty (4-1) allowed only one earned run in his seven innings for his team-leading fourth win of the season. He allowed 10 hits and issued a walk. Deacon Medders earned his team-high fifth save, pitching two scoreless innings.
Chandler Avant paced the Crimson Tide, going 2-for-4 for his team-high 16th multi-hit effort of the season. Hunter Alexander and Chandler Taylor each doubled. Sam Praytor and Kyle Kaufman both had one RBI.
Alabama scored both if its runs in the second inning.
Alabama (19-12, 4-6 SEC) will go for the series win on Saturday at 1 p.m. CT when the two teams meet for the second game of the series. The Crimson Tide will send senior right-hander Jake Walters to the mound while the Tigers will counter with junior left-hander Michael Plassmeyer.
