Alabama gymnast Ariana Guerra has been named the Southeastern Conference’s Specialist of the Week, it was announced Tuesday.

The senior matched her career-best score on the floor exercise — a 9.925 — last Friday, helping Alabama defeat then-No. 10 Georgia 196.9 to 196.875 on the road. Guerra also scored a season-best 9.85 on vault and a 9.8 on the uneven bars.

With the boost from Guerra’s scores, the Crimson Tide posted season-high marks on all four events. It had a a 49.3 on floor, a 49.275 on vault, a 49.2 on balance beam and a 49.125 on bars. The 196.9 overall was also a season best.

“It’s fired me up for sure,” Guerra said Monday. “Like I even messaged in the group (Sunday), I was like, ‘I don’t know about y’all, but I’m more fired up for this weekend than ever.’ I think it’s just nice to know that we’ve definitely earned that outcome and there’s still room for improvement. Just to see the potential in this team and how far we’ve come from the first meet to now, it’s just incredible.”

Alabama is now ranked No. 9 nationally and will host No. 5 LSU on Friday in Coleman Coliseum at 8 p.m. The Tigers are the defending SEC champions.
