The University of Alabama softball team will open play against top-seeded Florida at the Gainesville Super Regional on Thursday at 6 p.m. CT in the best-of-three series that will send the winner to the Women’s College World Series.
The teams will play again Friday at 7 p.m. CT. A third game, if necessary, is scheduled for Saturday at 4 p.m. CT.
The Thursday game will be televised on ESPN. Friday’s game will be carried on ESPN2, with the third game set for ESPN.
Alabama (45-16) won the Tuscaloosa Regional, defeating Minnesota 1-0 in the championship game last Sunday to advance. The Crimson Tide is seeded 16th.
Florida (53-7) won the Gainesville Regional, defeating Oklahoma State 5-0 in the final. The SEC champion Gators were taken to the “if necessary” game after losing to Oklahoma State, 1-0, earlier on Sunday.
Alabama and Florida have not played this season.
The Crimson Tide is participating in the super regional round of the NCAA Tournament for the 13th straight year, having advanced o the round of 16 in each year since that format was adopted. Alabama is playing to earn a fourth consecutive trip to the World Series
