The Alabama softball team split a doubleheader with the New Zealand national team Thursday in exhibition play in Japan.
New Zealand won the first game, 7-6, coming from behind after Alabama took a 6-3 lead.
Alabama rallied from a 5-0 deficit in the second game to win 6-5, with the game called after four innings on a time limit rule.
Bailey Hemphill hit two home runs in the first game. Maddie Morgan, Regan Dykes and Claire Jenkins all had RBIs.
Freshman Montana Fouts, who pitched four innings in the first game, hit a pinch-hit grand slam in the second game.
“Stepping onto that field for the first time was awesome,” Fouts said. “It was something I have been dreaming about since I was 5 years old. Having my first game be in Japan was amazing.”
The Crimson Tide will play a doubleheader against Great Britain on Sunday.
