Taulia Tagovailoa’s transfer waiver has been approved by the NCAA and the former Alabama QB is immediately eligible to play at Maryland, per a Maryland release. The news was first reported by Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.
The news came at a welcome time for Maryland coach Mike Locksley. The Terrapins were down to one scholarship quarterback for 2020 after projected starter Josh Jackson announced on Friday that he would opt out of the upcoming season due to coronavirus concerns .
Attorney John Long handled the Tagovailoa family’s case over the last three months. Taulia Tagovailoa is the younger brother of former Alabama starter and Miami Dolphins No. 1 draft choice Tua Tagovailoa.
Taulia Tagovailoa appeared in three games in 2019 as Alabama’s No. 3 quarterback. He completed nine passes for 100 yards and one touchdown.
He was the only quarterback in AHSAA history to have at least four 400-yard passing games, throwing for 3,728 yards and 35 touchdowns as a senior at Thompson High School in Alabaster. Tagovailoa led Thompson to the 2018 Class 7A state championship game and was selected to the ASWA Class 7A All-State first team.
