Ramsey tells trustees of 1-year postseason ban
University of Louisville President James Ramsey told the Board of Trustees in a conference call Friday that he will announce the men's basketball team will not participate in post-season tournaments this season.
Ramsey told trustees and members of the U of L Foundation that he had received an update on the NCAA investigation of allegations about the program and that it was "reasonable to conclude violations had occurred."
Ramsey said that despite the self-imposed ban, he supports Coach Rick Pitino, Athletic Director Tom Jurich and the basketball program.
He said he made the decision to withhold the team from post-season play after consulting with Jurich.
"It was a difficult decision but one that is the interests of the university," he said.
Jurich also said it was "the right thing to do."
He said players had been informed of the decision and "there were a lot of tears."
