Alabama gymnastics hosts Auburn: 3 things to know about Friday's meet

The Alabama gymnastics team takes on Auburn at 7:30 p.m. Friday (SEC Network) at Coleman Coliseum. Here are three things to know before the meet:

Alabama comes in 2-0, Auburn 0-2

After a 195.775-195.75 win over Missouri on the road last week, Alabama enters having won both of its meets to open the season.

Going back to last season, Alabama has won four consecutive meets and seven of its last eight. Conversely, Auburn has dropped meets against Florida and Kentucky to open the season.

Shania Adams comes in as the SEC Freshman of the Week

Following her performance against Missouri, in which she set career highs in both all-around and vault, Adams was named the SEC Freshman of the Week. This is the second conference honor the Tide has earned this season, following Makarri Doggette being named the SEC Specialist of the Week after the season opener.

This will be the first Iron Bowl of Gymnastics in more than a year

Alabama opened the 2020 season against Auburn on the road, with the Tigers coming out on top 196.625-196.025. While Alabama and Auburn were scheduled to face off again in Birmingham that March as part of Elevate the Stage, that meet was canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic. "Last year, we were so hungry to be able to compete with Auburn," senior Alonza Klopfer said. "We've done the preparation, and we're ready to compete."
