Alabama football lands QB Ty Simpson, first 5-star of 2022 class
Five-star quarterback Ty Simpson of Martin, Tennessee, chose Alabama over Clemson and Tennessee, he announced Friday afternoon. Simpson also visited LSU and Ole Miss, among others.
Simpson is the No. 3 pro-style quarterback in the 2022 recruiting class, according to the 247Sports Composite, the No. 2 prospect in the state of Tennessee and the No. 27 overall prospect.
UA securing Simpson's commitment was essential considering he is the only top-six quarterback yet to be committed, in addition to leaving consistent recruiting rival Clemson searching for a quarterback in its 2022 class.
When Simpson, who received his five-star designation on Thursday, enrolls before the 2022 season, he will be the third top-100 prospect in UA's quarterback room, joining Bryce Young (No. 2 prospect in 2020 class) and Jalen Milroe (No. 81 prospect in 2021 class).
Simpson is the fourth commit to UA's 2022 class, joining four-star inside linebacker Robert Woodyard, four-star tight end Elijah Brown and three-star defensive lineman Walter Bob.
