Luisa Blanco, Makarri Doggette score perfect 10s as Alabama gymnastics opens NCAA Tuscaloosa Regional

Alabama gymnastics sophomore Luisa Blanco opened Friday's NCAA Tuscaloosa Regional session on the balance beam and scored a perfect 10, the first of her career.

It was the first perfect 10 by an Alabama gymnast in four years, and the first time an Alabama gymnast has scored a perfect 10 on beam in seven years.

Blanco has had a breakout season in 2021, winning four all-arounds, including one at the SEC Championship in Huntsville. Blanco was also named a first-team All-American in the all-around.

Makarri Doggette followed it up with the second perfect 10 in four rotations, scoring 10 on the uneven bars. It was the first perfect score of her career, and the first for Alabama on bars in 19 years.

Doggette finished this season as a first-team All-American on bars.

Alabama advanced to the third round of the Tuscaloosa Regional. The Crimson Tide is competing Saturday for a chance to compete advance to the national championship in Fort Worth, Texas, later this month.
