Which Alabama baseball players were selected in 2021 MLB Draft?
Alabama baseball returned to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2014 this past season. Then, the Crimson Tide set a team record in the 2021 MLB Draft.
Alabama had four players selected over the first six rounds, the most in program history for one roster. Four players picked through the first 10 rounds also ties the 1983 team.
Here's a look at the Alabama players and signees who heard their names called during the 20 rounds.
2B Peyton Wilson
Team: Kansas City Royals, Round CB-B (66th overall)
Slot value: $1 million
Wilson, a Hoover native, started in all 58 games in 2021. Wilson batted .290 and led Alabama with 46 runs, 10 stolen bases, 72 hits and 13 doubles. He's the last prospect in the draft to be slotted at $1 million or higher.
RHP Dylan Smith
Team: Detroit Tigers, Round 3 (74th overall)
Slot value: $844,200
He finished 2021 as Alabama's leader in innings pitched (98⅓). His 113 strikeouts were the third-most for a single season in Alabama history. He joins former Alabama pitcher Spencer Turnbull, who threw a no-hitter in May for Detroit, in the Tigers' organization.
RHP Chase Lee
Team: Texas Rangers, Round 6 (164th overall)
Slot value: $312,400
Lee has experienced quite an ascension to become an MLB draft pick. He began his Crimson Tide career as a walk-on who didn't make the team. Coach Brad Bohannon gave him the advice to become a sidearm pitcher if he wanted to join Alabama's team down the road. Lee then started by playing for the UA club team in 2018. He improved and became a reliable reliever for the Crimson Tide in 2021.
C Sam Praytor
Team: Miami Marlins, Round 6 (179th overall)
Slot value: $274,800
Praytor appeared in all 58 games, 54 of which he started at catcher. He served as designated hitter in the other four. He finished the season with 14 home runs, the most of any Crimson Tide players and tied for 12th in the SEC. His efforts earned him a spot on the All-SEC first team.
RHP Tyler Ras
Team: Colorado Rockies, Round 14 (410th overall)
Slot value: Not listed
Ras earned a spot on the SEC All-Defensive team in 2021 as he finished with a 5.38 ERA and a 7-5 record. He lead all Crimson Tide pitchers in wins. The junior also earned recognition for an ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove. The Chicago Cubs previously selected him in the 33rd round in 2018 as a high school player.
SS Noah Miller
Team: Minnesota Twins, Round CB-A (36th overall)
Slot value: $2.05 million
The shortstop is a member of Alabama's 2021-22 signing class. But with him going as high as he did in the draft out of high school, it becomes less likely he makes it to Tuscaloosa. Miller, 18, is considered the top prospect in Wisconsin by Perfect Game. From Ozaukee High School, he's the nation's No. 13 shortstop and No. 49 player overall.
RHP Luke Holman
Team: Toronto Blue Jays, Round 20 (602nd overall)
Slot value: Not listed
The Wilson High School (Pennsylvania) product was ranked the No. 172 prospect in the draft by MLB.com. His dad, Craig Holman, was picked in the 22nd round of the 1991 draft by the Philadelphia Phillies.
