Alabama basketball nonconference schedule in 2021-22 includes three Final Four teams
Alabama basketball announced its 2021-2022 nonconference schedule Tuesday, finalizing a 13-game stretch that includes three teams that participated in last season’s Final Four.
The school announced the full slate via press release. The Crimson Tide’s 18-game Southeastern Conference schedule, along with tip times and television designations, will be announced later.
The Crimson Tide will open the season with a four-game homestand beginning Nov. 9 against Louisiana Tech, the defending Conference USA West Division champion and NIT third-place finisher. Alabama will close the homestand with a trio of home games in a span of a week: Summit Conference regular-season champion South Dakota State (Nov. 12), South Alabama (Nov. 16) and Oakland (Nov. 19).
Alabama will play four consecutive neutral site contests, three of which will take place in Orlando at the ESPN Events Invitational. The Tide will open the event, which contains perennial power Kansas among others, against Iona on Nov. 25.
The Crimson Tide opens December playing a pair of Final Four teams. First, UA will play 2021 NCAA runner-up Gonzaga in the Battle in Seattle on Dec. 4. A week later, Alabama will hosts Houston.
The only true road game on this year’s nonconference schedule will be played Dec. 15 at Memphis. The Tigers were 2021 NIT champions and have added two of the most highly-rated recruits in the nation in Jalen Duren and Emoni Bates on a team expected to be ranked in the preseason Top 25. The Tide will then take on Jacksonville State on Dec. 18 in Tuscaloosa before playing Colorado State in Birmingham on Dec. 21.
The non-league slate will conclude on Jan. 29 when Alabama hosts defending national champion Baylor in the Big 12/SEC Challenge.
