A look back at Alabama Crimson Tide football's last trip to Gainesville to face Florida

Nick Saban vs. Will Muschamp.

AJ McCarron vs. John Brantley.

Trent Richardson vs. Mike Gillislee.

In hindsight, the last time Alabama Crimson Tide football played in The Swamp at Florida — October 1, 2011 — was not the close matchup that the rankings would have indicated.

No. 3 Alabama fell behind within the first 20 seconds on a 65-yard TD pass from Brantley to Andre Debose but allowed just 107 total yards after the first two drivers and pummeled No. 12 Florida 38-10 in Gainesville. It was Alabama's second visit to The Swamp since 2000.

It was a sign of things to come of just how good that national-title winning 2011 defense would be — Maybe the best in Nick Saban's tenure? — and how poorly Will Muschamp's tenure at Florida would be in time.

The Crimson Tide defense gave up double digit point totals in five of 13 games that season, a remarkable stat. Meanwhile, Florida went 7-6 in 2011, went 11-2 in 2012, then struggled to 4-8 and 7-5 the next two seasons which resulted in Muschamp's firing.

In 2021, Alabama is finally back in The Swamp, as the No. 1 ranked team in the country. Florida is currently No. 9.

Will it be a similar mismatch on Saturday as it was a decade ago?
