Where No. 2 Alabama softball stands with two SEC series remaining
For No. 2 Alabama softball, the expectation is to be in the top of Southeastern Conference standings as the end of the regular season nears.
The Crimson Tide has won the regular season six times, most recently in 2019. Alabama has never had a losing record in conference play.
Through six conference series, the Crimson Tide (38-6) sees itself in a familiar spot alone in second place holding a 13-5 record. Alabama has won five straight series sweeping two of those, at South Carolina and against Mississippi State.
Coach Patrick Murphy's squad is one game out of the first place held by the Arkansas Razorbacks (32-8, 11-4), while holding just a one-game lead over Tennessee (30-12, 11-6) for the third spot with two series remaining. The SEC has eight teams within three games of each other. Arkansas travels to fourth-place Florida (34-9, 11-7) this weekend.
The Crimson Tide travels to Texas A&M (24-17, 3-12) for a three-game series beginning Friday at 6 p.m. Game 2 will be Saturday at 6 p.m. on SEC Network with Sunday's finale starting at noon.
"This is a huge weekend for us, we still have a lot to play for," said Murphy. "I think our team knows that."
The Crimson Tide will not have a conference series following the A&M road trip, but travels to Western Kentucky April 27 before wrapping up the regular season against Missouri (May 6-8).
