What Peter Woods, Alabama football five-star target, is thinking before July 8 commitment
Last July 8, Alabama football five-star freshman edge Jeremiah Alexander announced his commitment to the Crimson Tide.
Alexander and 2023 five-star defensive lineman Peter Woods are close friends and teammates at Thompson the last three years.
This July 8, Woods will announce his commitment. He didn't intentionally choose the same date. Maybe it's good luck for Alabama.
"What’s crazy is I didn’t know that when I picked my date until he said something, Woods told the Tuscaloosa News. "That was wild for me."
Woods, the No. 23 recruit in the nation according to the 247Sports Composite, has a final four of Alabama, Clemson, Florida and Jackson State.
The last school Woods saw was Clemson, during an official visit on the first weekend of July. He planned a visit to Florida the next week but canceled because of "unforeseen circumstances."
Woods hasn't taken an official visit to Alabama or Jackson State. He finished with 92 tackles, 26 for loss, and 11 sacks as a junior when he helped Thompson win its third straight AHSAA 7A state championship.

"I was thinking about rescheduling my Florida visit, but it didn't work out that way," Woods said. "I’ve been to Bama 50 times. Not really much more I can see there. I’ve been to Clemson a couple times. Took an (official visit) there.
"I went to Florida in the summer. It’s coming down to the wire for sure. I’m still making my decision in my head, but it will be done."
Clemson defensive line coach Nick Eason and Alabama defensive line coach Freddie Roach have built great relationships with Woods for years.
Eason was Woods' main contact at Auburn, which Eason left in January. Woods later dropped Auburn from contention in the spring.
Clemson only bolstered its chances with the addition of Eason because it was already a top choice before his arrival.
Woods has a group of friends and former Thompson teammates at, or committed to, Alabama: 2023 five-star defensive back Tony Mitchell, Alexander, four-star freshman defensive back Tre'Quon Fegans and offensive lineman and cousin Amari Kight.
The proximity to Tuscaloosa has helped Alabama land top recruits from Thompson for years.
Ahead of his decision, Woods is drawing from his Alexander's recruiting process.
"It was, for him, to make the decision that was best for you, who you aspire to be," Woods said. "I feel like he did that to the best of his ability, and he’s expecting me to do the same, and that’s what I’m ready to do."
