Auburn football behind vaccination threshold at around 60%, Bryan Harsin said at SEC Media Days
HOOVER, Ala. — Auburn football is lagging behind the 80% vaccination threshold at around 60%, coach Bryan Harsin said at SEC Media Days on Thursday.
“I don’t know where we’ll be at the start of the season; we’re not there yet,” Harsin said “I think we’re in that 60% range is where we are. I don’t know by the time we get to the season where we’ll be when we get everybody back together and get to camp.”
Harsin said the program has provided information on benefits of the vaccine, but understands the choice is deeply personal. Commissioner Greg Sankey said on Monday it has not been determined if teams must take a forfeit if they don't meet roster minimums on gamedays.
"The last five months, we haven't had any positive tests. I think our guys have taken it very seriously, which is hard to do," Harsin said. "There's a lot of things going on, but I respect our players in that they are focused, they do take it seriously and they're trying very hard to do the things the right way so that we can play and not have those issues.”
Harsin is in his first season as coach and takes over a program that finished 6-4 and lost in the Citrus Bowl in 2020.
