Bryan Harsin: Shaun Shivers, other Auburn football absences day-to-day ahead of Penn State game
AUBURN — All of Auburn football's absences from Saturday's 62-0 win against Alabama State are currently day-to-day, Bryan Harsin said during his weekly press conference Monday. The coach said he is hopeful everyone will be available against Penn State this weekend.
The three notable players who were out against Alabama State were receiver Ja'Varrius Johnson, cornerback Jaylin Simpson and running back Shaun Shivers, who wasn't at Jordan-Hare Stadium. Johnson and Simpson were both seen on the sideline with the rest of the team.
Harsin was asked specifically about Shivers, but in his answer he didn't name the senior running back, instead referring to the entire group of players who were out.
"I hope all those guys that didn’t play — nothing season-ending," Harsin said. "So I hope all those guys ... we can get a chance to get some of those guys back."
Shivers scored two touchdowns in Auburn's season-opening win against Akron. Though Harsin was mum about what his running back situation will look like this weekend, Shivers is now sharing the No. 2 running back space on the depth chart with freshman Jarquez Hunter, who had 147 yards on eight carries vs. Alabama State.
