Auburn baseball falls to Vanderbilt in SEC Tournament as offense struggles outside homeruns

HOOVER, ALA. — Auburn baseball fell to Vanderbilt, 6-4 in the SEC Tournament at the Hoover Met on Wednesday.
With the loss, Auburn will matchup will instate rival Alabama, with the loser going home in the second game on Thursday. It will start 35 minutes after the conclusion of Texas A&M and South Carolina. It will air on SEC Network.
Cole Foster got the scoring started with his second home run of the tournament before the Commodores took the lead in the second. Chris Stanfield tied the game with his own home run before the teams traded scoring zeros. The tie was broken up in the sixth as Vanderbilt scored one run with a bases-loaded ground out. Vanderbilt would add three more runs over the next two innings to spread out its lead.

Long ball flies for the Tigers
For the second night in a row, Cole Foster sent a ball over the wall into right field. Wednesday's home run stayed in the park but still gave the Tigers an early lead. Chris Stanfield followed up with his own home run in the third that tied the game. Bryson Ware added a two-RBI home run in the ninth but it wasn't enough to overcome the deficit. It was the second night with at least two home runs for the Tigers in Hoover.
Vanderbilt bats wake up early and late
Auburn allowed two runs in the first and one in the sixth and seventh but kept the Commodores' bats silent outside of that for the most part. In between those innings, Vanderbilt had one hit and three baserunners but none that threatened to score. The eighth inning saw Vanderbilt has some insurance runs as Auburn allowed bases loaded with no outs.
