Jaden Shackelford flourished as an Alabama freshman
As a freshman in 2019-20, Jaden Shackelford played in all 31 games and started 19 times as the Crimson Tide went 16-15 overall and 8-10 in the Southeastern Conference.
Shackelford averaged 15 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 1.4 assists in 29.4 minutes a game. He earned a spot on the SEC All-Freshman Team.
"I've grown so much, become a better two-way player," Shackelford said to the Victorville Daily Press in March 2020. "I'm better at going after the rebound. Those are things I never really took serious. It's blue-collar basketball. It's taking the charges, going after every loose ball. The game’s become easier for me in working with coach (Nate Oats)."

Jaden Shackelford played his first two seasons of high school basketball at Oak Hills High School in San Bernardino County, California. According to MaxPreps, he averaged 14.7 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game as a freshman in 2015-16, and he followed that up by averaging 25.1 points as a sophomore.
Shackelford joined Hesperia High School as a junior, and he averaged 23.3 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 2.9 steals in 2017-18. As a senior, he averaged 34 points, 11 rebounds, 5.5 assists, and 4.0 steals.

Jaden Shackelford spent 4 extra hours practicing daily in high school
Jaden Shackelford and his dad, Anthony Shackelford, put in plenty of extra time in the gym while Jaden was in high school, according to the Victorville Daily Press.
They said a normal day included going to the gym from 5:30-7:30 a.m. and 6-8 p.m., which was in addition to his high school team practice.
"And that’s a normal day," Jaden Shackelford said. "Some days we go a little crazy. It feels good to know that I’ve actually put work behind everything. Everything is just not happening for no reason. I put in the time to make sure this happened for me and my family."
