Alabama basketball's Dom Welch out with injury for Longwood game

Dom Welch will have to wait to make his debut for Alabama basketball.

The St. Bonaventure transfer is out for the Longwood game. He is day-to-day with a lower body injury, per a team spokesperson. Welch was in street clothes during warmups and the game.

He's a 6-foot-5, 205-pound graduate transfer guard from Buffalo, New York. He played for the Bonnies for the past four seasons, playing in 110 games and making 105 starts.

In his final year with St. Bonaventure, Welch started in 33 games, averaging 12.3 points, 6 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.3 steals per game.

In the NIT semifinal against Xavier, he hit seven 3-pointers and 25 total points. He is expected to help improve Alabama's 3-point shooting this season once he's healthy.

When he was choosing to transfer, Welch picked the Crimson Tide over Wisconsin, Texas Tech, Kansas and more.

The Crimson Tide is playing its fourth season under the direction of Nate Oats. Alabama seeks to reach the NCAA Tournament for a third consecutive season. After the Longwood game, the Crimson Tide will next face Liberty on Friday (7 p.m., SEC Network+) at Coleman Coliseum.
