Alabama basketball aims to score a victory over Maryland in the NCAA Tournament on Saturday as part of March Madness.

Brandon Miller is dealing with a groin injury heading into the game. It flared up this past Sunday in the SEC Tournament, then the Crimson Tide (30-5) had him limited to 19 minutes in the game against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi that Alabama won in the first round of the tournament Thursday at Legacy Arena in Birmingham. Miller is Alabama's leading scorer and the SEC player of the year as a freshman.

The Crimson Tide aims to beat the Terrapins (22-12) for the second time in the second round of the NCAA Tournament during coach Nate Oats' four seasons leading the program. Alabama also beat Maryland in Indianapolis in the Round of 32 two seasons ago before the Crimson Tide lost to UCLA in the Sweet 16.

Alabama basketball score vs. Maryland: Live updates

Second half

FINAL: Alabama 73, Maryland 51. The Tide will be in Louisville next week for the Sweet 16 against San Diego State.

3:19 left: Quinerly hits back-to-back 3s and is up to 22 points. What a difference a year makes. Nice moment for the guard who suffered a major knee injury in last season's NCAA Tournament.

4:12 left: Alabama 59, Maryland 45. Quinerly is up to 16 points.

6:10 left: Jahvon Quinerly's 3-pointer pushes the lead back to 15.

6:40 left: A small run by Maryland has cut the lead to 54-42.

8:46 left: Alabama on an 8-0 run, with Gurley cleaning up a Miller miss. Alabama 52, Maryland 35. Tide have 12 offensive rebounds. Miller up to 17 points.

10:15 left: What would happen if Alabama didn't make shots in the NCAA Tournament? We have the answer. Tide's defense has been dominant. Alabama 48, Maryland 35.

12:12 left: Julian Reese, who has 9 points in 12 minutes, just picked up his fourth foul.

Alabama 44, Maryland 35.

15:30 left: Miller with a pin-down block, then hits a right elbow open 3 on the other end. Alabama by 10.

16:39 left: Charles Bediako with four straight, and Alabama leads 37-28.

18:46 left: Brandon Miller 3 is good. Alabama by 9.

First half

HALFTIME: Alabama 28, Maryland 23. Maryland shot 30% and hit just one 3-pointer in the half. Alabama's defense is the story of the first 20 minutes.

Noah Clowney limped off the floor with about a minute left in the half. Turned his left ankle.

3:19 left: Miller tips in his own miss, and Alabama leads 26-17. The Tide defense has been very good. 11-1 Alabama run.

4:19 left: Brandon Miller posts up, spins and scores on the baseline. Alabama 21, Maryland 17. Timeout Terps.

6:42 left: Nice drive and layup for Brandon Miller, his first basket of the game. Looked healthier there.

7:30 left: Mark Sears' short jumper puts Alabama ahead for the first time, 15-14.

8:50 left: Julian Reese comes in and commits foul No. 3 14 seconds left.

Brandon Miller is clearly not 100% and has missed all three of his field goal attempts. Tide going to need a gutsy performance from him, or for someone else to come in and help drive the offense.

10:33 left: Neither team has scored in almost 4 minutes.

12:36 left: A lot of missed shots. Maryland has started well but only leads 12-10. If Alabama can get settled in on offense, it can take control quickly here.

16:10 left: Maryland doesn't have a big that can match up well with Bediako. His play, whether he struggles against smaller guards or makes an impact against Maryland's frontcourt, will be important today.

17:03 left: Julian Reese with a quick two fouls. Reviewing a hook-and-hold in an interaction with Brandon Miller.

17:18 left: Brandon Miller makes both free throws and has his first points of the NCAA Tournament.

17:21 left: Maryland has made its first four shots and lead 9-2.

20:00 left: Brandon Miller is in the lineup. Alabama vs. Maryland for a trip to Louisville for the Sweet 16 and a game against San Diego State.
