University of Louisville athletic director Tom Jurich's daughter is Adidas brand manager
The apparel company targeted in the federal college basketball recruiting scandal has deeper ties to the University of Louisville than a $160 million contract extension sealed this summer.
Adidas also employs athletic director Tom Jurich's daughter, Haley Marie Jurich, according to her LinkedIn profile and a Facebook post from earlier this year.
The 26-year-old Jurich joined the apparel company as an NCAA brand communications manager in March, according to her reports on social media.
Haley Jurich's Facebook page carried news of her Adidas position on March 31: "I am thrilled to announce that having been an Adidas advocate at such an early age and being an Adidas student-athlete, I have just accepted a position with Adidas-brand communication manager at the University of Louisville. #Adidas #CreateYours #L1C4 #The Ville"
Tom Jurich, who is widely credited with elevating U of L athletics to the national stage, was suspended with pay Wednesday pending the next meeting of the U of L board of trustees, which is set for Oct. 19. He and basketball coach Rick Pitino were suspended after allegations contained in a federal indictment that detailed a pay for play scheme that included University of Louisville coaches and at least two players.
It's unclear whether the athletic director and his staff were negotiating the contract extension on the Louisville/Adidas deal last spring when Haley Jurich was hired by Adidas.
But at a news conference last month to announce one of the richest sponsorship deals in college athletics, Tom Jurich thanked two executives on hand, Chris McGuire, the director of sports marketing; and Jim Murphy, director of NCAA sports marketing at the company.
Tom Jurich recounted the beginnings of the relationship with Adidas 20 years ago after former football coach John L. Smith arrived in Louisville. The school paid retail price for 200 pairs of shoes, he said.
The most recent Adidas deal, which is effective through this school year, is worth $39 million over five years. Because of their 20-year partnership, Tom Jurich said during the announcement, "We're part of the Adidas family and I hope they know they're part of the Cardinal family."
Haley Jurich's LinkedIn profile also says she worked at the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado, as an assistant director of athletic development starting in January 2016 until she took the Adidas job in March. She previously served an internship with the NCAA.
Her Twitter account was deleted Wednesday after the Courier-Journal first reported her connections to the company.
Haley Jurich's LinkedIn profile says that she graduated with a bachelor's degree from the University of Louisville in administration and communication in 2013 and earned a master's degree in communication from Northern Arizona University in 2015.
The graduate of Christian Academy played field hockey for U of L for four years.
