COLLEGE STATION, Tx. — Alabama football lost for the first time since 2019 on Saturday as Texas A&M kicked the game-winning field goal as time expired to win 41-38 at Kyle Field.

Here are our grades for Alabama in the loss:

Offense: C

Bryce Young and company made plays at times and moved the ball, but the first half turnovers proved costly. Alabama struggled to handle pressure, too.

Defense: C-

The defense made adjustments in the second half to be much improved, with two crucial third-down stops in the third. But that first-half performance was downright ugly at times and the defense couldn't finish.

Special teams: B-

Alabama looked to have boosted its special teams grade with a Ja'Corey Brooks punt block that led to a touchdown. But then the Crimson Tide gave up a 96-yard kickoff return touchdown on the next play.

Coaching: C-

Alabama got out-coached on both sides of the ball at times. The types of passing plays the Crimson Tide ran at times were puzzling when running the ball might have made sense.

Overall: C-

No. 1 Alabama should not be losing to an unranked team, even if it is an SEC foe. And yet Texas A&M managed to pull out the win. The Crimson Tide had plenty of opportunities to win, but it couldn't finish the job.
