How Auburn football honored late Tuscaloosa News columnist Cecil Hurt at the Iron Bowl
Saturday's Iron Bowl marks the first game for Alabama football since longtime Tuscaloosa News columnist Cecil Hurt died Tuesday at 62 from complications from pneumonia.
Auburn Athletics made sure his presence was felt.
AU set aside a press box seat with Hurt's photo, roses and a sign that read "In memory, Cecil Hurt, The Tuscaloosa News." A credential with his name was also printed and placed at the seat.
CBS also honored Hurt at halftime on the game broadcast.
He had worked for The Tuscaloosa News since 1982 as a sportswriter then columnist and sports editor, covering UA for almost four decades.
