Alabama football schedule 2024 has fourth and final non-conference opponent set

Alabama football's non-conference schedule is set for 2024, contracts obtained by The Tuscaloosa News/USA TODAY Network show.

The Crimson Tide is scheduled to face Mercer on Nov. 16, 2024 in Tuscaloosa, per the contract signed in February 2019.

Other non-conference games on the 2024 schedule that have previously been reported or announced are Western Kentucky (Aug. 31), South Florida (Sept. 7) and Wisconsin (Sept. 14).

This non-conference schedule is subject to change if the SEC adjusts its conference-game requirement before then. If the SEC game-requirement total moves from eight to nine, one of these opponents would have to be moved.

The South Florida and Wisconsin matchups are the two likely candidates. These contracts include good faith clauses that allow for the games to be moved if there is a change in conference requirements.

With the Mercer game becoming known, Alabama has four non-conference opponents scheduled for 2023 through 2025. The 2026 schedule has three set in Florida State, South Florida and West Virginia.

Depending on when Texas and Oklahoma join the conference, that is expected to force changes in scheduling. Right now, that is set for 2025 but that also could change.

Mercer is not a new FCS opponent for the Crimson Tide. Alabama beat the Bears 48-14 in the second week of the 2021 season. When the two teams faced in 2017, the Crimson Tide won 56-0.

Because the note about the 2024 game is included on the contract signed for the 2021 game, the same terms and conditions apply. So, Alabama is expected to pay the Bears $600,000 again.
