Mississippi State basketball's Tolu Smith is out against Georgia, missing second game
STARKVILLE — Mississippi State men's basketball forward Tolu Smith will not play against Georgia on Wednesday, missing his second game due to a non-disciplinary reason, a source told the Clarion Ledger.
The source said Smith is in line to return Saturday against Alabama. The source requested anonymity because the university hasn't announced Smith's absence Wednesday (6 p.m., SEC Network).
Smith didn't practice Monday or Tuesday, which coach Ben Howland said he hoped would happen. Smith missed Saturday's game against Ole Miss, too.
Smith has played in just five games this season for the Bulldogs, averaging 14.2 points and 7.8 rebounds. He missed the start of the season because of a stress fracture in his foot, and he missed another stretch due to a fractured pinky toe.
Without Smith, Mississippi State will lean more heavily on Garrison Brooks as a center, with Javian Davis still rotating in.
