No. 3 Ole Miss baseball beats Alcorn State 8-1, improves to 23-6 on season
OXFORD — No. 3 Ole Miss baseball finished off a season sweep of Alcorn State on Tuesday.
Ole Miss (23-6, 7-2 SEC) beat Alcorn State 8-1 on Tuesday, beating the Braves for the second time in as many months. Freshmen Jacob Gonzalez and TJ McCants led the way offensively, combining to hit 6-for-7 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
Sophomore right-hander Drew McDaniel started and threw four innings, allowing one run on two hits and two walks. The relievers behind him combined to throw five shutout innings with 10 strikeouts. Left-hander Jackson Kimbrell was most impressive, striking out four and only allowing one hit in two innings.
First baseman Cael Baker made his first start since March 16, returning from a hand injury and replacing injured infielder Tim Elko, missing his first game since tearing his ACL. Baker batted 1-for-4 with one RBI.
Ole Miss returns to action on Friday for the first game of a three-game series against No. 2 Arkansas. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. and the game will be televised on the SEC Network.
