Up next for Tennessee football: Texas A&M Aggies and Kellen Mond
No. 5 Texas A&M (7-1) is on a six-game winning streak since a loss to Alabama on Oct. 3. If the Aggies beat Tennessee (3-6) on Saturday (noon ET, ESPN) at Neyland Stadium, they have a chance at making the College Football Playoff in Jimbo Fisher's third season.
Senior quarterback Kellen Mond is having the best year of his career. He is 146-of-239 passing (61.1%) for 1,769 yards with 18 touchdowns and two interceptions.
Isaiah Spiller's 897 rushing yards rank third in the SEC. He's averaging 5.9 yards per carry.
Tight end Jalen Wydermyer and running back Ainias Smith each have more than 400 yards receiving.
The Aggies lead the SEC in total defense, surrendering just 329.5 yards per game. They're stout against the pass and the run.
Linebacker Buddy Johnson leads the team with 74 tackles, and defensive lineman Bobby Brown III has 4½ sacks.
Tennessee leads the all-time series, 2-1, but lost the most recent matchup, a 45-38 defeat in double overtime in 2016.
Vols coach Jeremy Pruitt won a national championship with Fisher at Florida State during the 2013 season. Pruitt was Fisher's defensive coordinator, and the Seminoles led the nation in scoring defense.
