Tennessee football lands wide receiver JaVonta Payton as Mississippi State transfer
"I was always meant to be home," wrote Payton, who is from Nashville.
The 6-foot-1, 180-pound Payton caught 19 passes for 225 yards and a touchdown in 2020. He had nine receptions for 147 yards in 2019.
Payton appeared in 22 games with five starts at Mississippi State.
He attended Hillsboro High before spending the first two years of his college career at Northwest Mississippi Community College.
Tennessee offered Payton out of high school and junior college.
The Vols have landed three transfer since spring football concluded on April 24 with the spring game.
Former Michigan quarterback Joe Milton transferred to UT on April 26. Linebacker transfer Juwan Mitchell picked UT on Monday after leaving Texas.
