What happened between Tony Vitello and Dave Van Horn after Tennessee-Arkansas baseball series?
Vitello said he "brought up some off-the-field stuff" after the coaching staffs shook hands following Arkansas' 3-1 win.
"Probably poor timing on my choice," said Vitello, who was Arkansas' hitting coach from 2014-17.
The exchange between Vitello and Van Horn started after the handshakes near home plate. The coaches had heated words for each other as they walked down the third-base line before being separated by staff members.
“Tony is a really good guy, and he is a really good coach," Van Horn said. "It could have been something that was going on during game. It could have been about recruiting. It could be about a lot of things. You could probably pick one of (those) or all three.
"That is between me and Tony.”
The chirping appeared to continue as Vitello headed for the Tennessee huddle in right field and Van Horn went to Arkansas' scrum in left field. Vols outfielder Evan Russell also got involved.
Vitello and Van Horn had an almost three-minute talk by the Arkansas dugout after the teams broke to form their huddles.
"He had some things to say, thought we did a good job and it was an excellent series and all that," Vitello said.
