Columnist's wife steals email show with response to SEC Network interview | Adams

John Adams
Knoxville News Sentinel

Most of my emails this past week had nothing to do with my sterling prose. Instead, they were directed at my wife’s comments about an interview with SEC commissioner Greg Sankey during the telecast of the SEC Tournament championship game between Tennessee and Florida.

She wasn’t happy about it. Neither were many of my readers.

I will get to Melinda’s newfound email followers later. But since this is my column, my emails will come first.

More:Tennessee baseball did extraordinary things. Its legacy is an incomplete journey.

John writes: John, I always  enjoy your  articles  especially because they can be contrary to my rose colored glass look at Tennessee athletics.

As to ESPN+ being  an alternative to high cost cable options, not so. I do not get ESPNU and the baseball game mentioned was not available on ESPN+. It 1st showed it available but then no. When I called ESPN, I was told it was because it was on ESPNU.

My response: I apologize. I have no business offering advice on anything related to money.

My only good financial decision was made 36 years ago. My broker called and asked “Who do like in the Miami (Ohio)-Akron basketball game?”

I closed my account two days later.

Nelson writes: Can players be hypnotized to think they are playing at home in away games?

My response: Of course, they can. But that doesn’t assure success.

For example, you could hypnotize Vanderbilt football players into believing they were playing Alabama in Nashville even when the game was at Bryant-Denny Stadium. But they still would lose by at least 45 points.

While my track record suggests I should never offer financial advice, I won’t hesitate in dispensing medical tips.

I have used hypnosis therapy for a handful of medical maladies with great results. If I had been aware of hypnosis therapy in my youth, I’m convinced I could have hit a curveball.

David writes: Great article on Jorel Ortega’s mother.

My response: Monica Rolon’s competence and courage is the reason Jorel is playing baseball for Tennessee. She took a huge chance and moved from Puerto Rico to Florida. The move has paid off for her and her son.

I will now turn this column over to my wife’s mailbag.

John writes: I just read your article in News Sentinel and want to tell you I agree 100% with your wife. Sankey's interview went at least three times longer than it should have.

Whitey writes: Melinda nails it. We switched to the radio (during Sankey interview) with a muted TV; although, visuals were still discordant for 15 minutes. Have a great Super Regional.

Kathy writes: Yes, Melinda. Amen.

Mark writes: She was spot on about Dr. Evil, ding, ding, ding, give that woman a fried pie. Oh, and nice plug for the wifey.

My response: I’m not thrilled at being a middleman. You can contact Melinda directly at  Chrisandarf@gmail.com
