Top 5 Jackson area high school football prospects signing in the class of 2022
With National Signing Day over for the class of 2021, attention moves to the class of 2022. And West Tennessee is loaded with talent ready for their senior season.
Here are five athletes that are projected to sign with a Power-5 conference within the next year:
A.J. Barham, Milan
247Sports ranking: Three-star; No. 28 in Tennessee
Analysis: The 6-foot-3, 224-pound inside linebacker returns after helping lead the Bulldogs to the Class 3A title game with 86 total tackles with three forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and one interception. Barham has picked up offers from Ball State and Marshall this month to go with offers Austin Peay, Coastal Carolina, Eastern Kentucky, Indiana, Jackson State, Liberty, Louisiana-Monroe and Tennessee State in 2020.
Anthony Brown, Milan
247 ranking: Three-star; No. 12 in Tennessee
Analysis: Brown, who is listed at 6-foot-2 and 192 pounds, transferred to Milan prior to his junior year and was a spark on offense with 1,512 total yards and 25 touchdowns and defense with five takeaways 64 total tackles as the Bulldogs won the Region 7-3A title. His first offer came from Memphis, and he also has offers from Alabama, Arkansas and Tennessee in the SEC along with Indiana and Michigan State in the Big Ten.
Jaylen Lewis, Haywood
247Sports ranking: Three-star; No. 14 in Tennessee
Analysis: Lewis, who is listed at 6-foot-2 and 175 pounds, helped lead the Tomcats to the Class 4A state championship game with 56 total tackles (40 solo, 16 assists) with four tackles for loss and seven interceptions. This month, Lewis has picked up offers from Marshall, Mississippi State, North Carolina, Ole Miss and Western Kentucky. He already had Power-5 offers from Arkansas, Boston College, Duke, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Indiana, Michigan State, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.

Kaydin Pope, Hardin County
Position: Wide receiver
247Sports ranking: Three-star; No. 21 in Tennessee
Analysis: The 6-foot-1, 172-pounder led West Tennessee in receiving yards with 1,240 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns on 55 receptions. 2021 has been crazy in recruiting for him as he has picked up offers from Arkansas, Arkansas State, Auburn, Boston College, Liberty and Ole Miss. He already had offers from Kentucky, Mississippi State, Tennessee and Vanderbilt along with Power-5 offers from Indiana and Virginia Tech.
Ty Simpson, Westview
247Sports ranking: Four-star; No. 2 in Tennessee
Analysis: The 6-foot-2, 185-pounder is the No. 2 dual-threat quarterback prospect in the nation. He completed 124 of 203 passes for 1,888 yards with 20 touchdowns and seven interceptions, while rushing for 311 yards and seven touchdowns last season. Simpson is scheduled to make his college selection on Feb. 19 at the Westview gymnasium. He narrowed his list to 10 in December — Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Florida, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Texas, Texas A&M and UT Martin.
