Summertown 49, North Greene 41: Lady Eagles back in Class A state championship game
MURFREESBORO – A year after not making the girls basketball state tournament, Summertown is back playing for the gold ball.
The Lady Eagles beat North Greene 49-41 at Middle Tennessee's Murphy Center on Friday to reach their second Class A state championship game in four years.
Both teams struggled on the offensive side of the ball in the first half, connecting on 11 of the 43 shots taken as Summertown (30-3) took an 18-14 lead into the half.
The Lady Eagles took control in the third quarter. They outscored North Greene 15-4 which made just one of its nine shots in the quarter.
Defensively, Summertown made things hard on North Greene (26-8) from the opening tip. The Lady Huskies only made 33% (15-of-46) of their shots and made only two of their 11 3-point attempts.
North Greene made things interesting in the fourth quarter, courtesy of a 7-0 run that cut the Summertown lead down to seven with just over four minutes remaining, but couldn't get any closer than six points.
Katie Burdette led the Lady Eagles with 13 points and eight rebounds. Kaley Campbell added on 11 points.
North Greene's Brooklyn Anderson led all scorers with 21 points.
