Carolina Hurricanes 3, Nashville Predators 2 (OT): Predators give up two-goal lead
The shorthanded Nashville Predators began a six-game stretch Tuesday against the Carolina Hurricanes, Tampa Bay Lightning and Florida Panthers, teams they were 1-11 against this season.
Make that 1-11-1 after Jordan Staal won it 3-2 in overtime for the Hurricanes.
On the day the team said Josi, their captain, is week-to-week with an upper-body injury, the Hurricanes extended their winning streak to six games.
Josi expressed his frustration with the season before the team left for its franchise-long eight-game, 15-day road trip. He scored the winning goal in a shootout victory Sunday against the Stars to snap the team's third three-game losing streak of the season.
Jeremy Davies, who was acquired from the New Jersey Devils in the P.K. Subban trade, made his NHL debut for the Predators.
Defenseman Matt Benning scored his first goal with the Predators 1:01 into the second period to give Nashville the lead. Ryan Johansen scored the Predators' second goal of the game, and his second of the season, to make it 2-0 less than six minutes into the second.
The Hurricanes answered when Staal scored a power-play goal after Dante Fabbro was called for a minor penalty after he elbowed Brock McGinn on a play the league could very well review for a possible fine and/or suspension.
Sebasitan Aho tied the score 2-2 after Mathieu Olivier was called for a double-minor high-sticking penalty.
The Predators fell to 11-14-1, while the Hurricanes moved to 18-6-1.
Big number: 9. Power-play goals by the Predators in their previous nine games before Tuesday.
On the wire: Announced Roman Josi is week-to-week with an upper-body injury. Recalled forwards Mathieu Olivier and Rem Pitlick and defenseman Jeremy Davies from the taxi squad.
Next: Predators at Carolina Hurricanes, 6 p.m. Thursday, PNC Arena, Fox Sports Tennessee, 102.5-FM.
