MONTEVALLO – The University of Alabama women’s cross country team placed second at the Montevallo Falcon Classic on Saturday, highlighted by Alexa Cruz’s fifth-place finish in the women’s 5K.
Cruz finished the 5K in 18:32.43. Hannah Howard, (22nd, 19:53.24) and Shannon Marsh, (18th, 19:37.96), Lauren Brackin (13th, 19:05.18), Leahrose Mami (21st, 19:52.14) and Riley Schelp (11th 18:57.19) all finished among the top 26 individuals. Sydney Milani rounded out Alabama’s lineup, finishing 49th in 21:30.55.
In the men’s 8K, Jakob Bernal of the University of West Alabama finished second overall to lead the West Alabama men’s cross country team to a fifth-place team finish. His time was 24:43.81 for his second place finish. Dean Dillon of Samford led the 170-runner men’s field with a time of 24:33.38.
All three Crimson Tide men’s competitors finished inside the top-45. Paul Selden completed the race in 26:21.10 to finish in 34th. Scott Platek finished 44th (26:47.03), while Alex Mielke finished 45th in 26:51.29.
Kaylee Hatley put together the University of West Alabama’s best finish in the women’s race. She covered the course in 20:03.81 to finish 25th among the 113-person field.
