FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Alabama soccer team fell to the No. 16 Arkansas Razorbacks, 1-0, in the first SEC conference game of the season.
The game-winning goal for Arkansas by Anna Podojil came six minutes into the first half.
Alabama’s offense fought aggressively. Many opportunities to score came as a result, including a cross play by duo freshman Macy Clem and junior Taylor Morgan within the 24th minute, as well as junior Chloe Maize launching a long shot in the 38th minute.
Junior Casey Wertz made a notable breakaway from half field in the 61st minute. From close inside the box, Wertz’s shot was saved by Arkansas goalkeeper Katie Lund.
Alabama outshot the Razorbacks 22-5 with six being on target. Junior Casey Wertz led the team with five shots with two on frame, followed by freshman Carlee Giammona with three.
The Tide earned nine more corner kicks than the Razorbacks (12-3).
Alabama will host South Carolina Thursday at 7 p.m. CT at the Alabama Soccer Stadium.
