TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The University of Alabama’s Gilbert Kigen won the NCAA Cross County South Regional men’s championship on Friday, finishing just ahead of the Crimson Tide’s Vincent Kiprop who finished second.

Kigen, who won the region championship in 2017 as well, finished the race in 29:49.5 while Kiprop finished in 29:49.9. Those two will automatically advance to the NCAA Championships. The Alabama men’s team, which finished third, will wait to see if it gets an at-large bid to nationals.

Mercy Chelangat (20:33.4) finished ninth, Rebecca Buteau (20:36.9) finished 14th and Allision Wilson (20:42.5) finished 21st in the women’s race. All three earned All-South Region accolades with their finish. The UA women’s team placed sixth in the team standings.
