After coming down to two close third sets in singles play, Alabama defeated Virginia Tech, 4-2 in the Roberta Alison Indoor Facility on Sunday. After a 3-0 lead, the Hokies won two singles matches in straight sets, leaving Ortiz/Korsgaard and Zhou/Ribeiro to decide the outcome. Ultimately, senior Edson Ortiz clinched the match winning the third set, 7-5.

In doubles, the Crimson Tide grabbed the first point. No. 40 senior Alexey Nesterov and junior Riccardo Roberto started things off with a 6-3 win, followed by senior Zhe Zhou and freshman Marcelo Sepulveda Garza, who snagged a 6-4 victory.

In singles, Alabama got off to 2-0 start with straight set wins by Nesterov and junior Jeremy Gschwendtner. Later, Junior Patrick Kaukovalta and Riccardo came up short against their opponents. Ortiz rounded out the day with a three set, 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 win.

Next, Alabama will take on Drake at 2 p.m. Friday and Minnesota at noon Sunday.
