NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Alabama women’s tennis team came up just short against No. 17 Vanderbilt, 4-3, on Sunday in Nashville. The Crimson Tide (12-6, 0-4 SEC) is still seeking its first Southeastern Conference win, while the Commodores (7-3, 3-1 SEC) picked up their third conference victory so far this season.
The Tide won the doubles point for the second time this weekend when Alba Cortina Pou and Sasha Gorchanyuk downed Cruz/Rosca at the No. 2 spot, 6-3. Ann Selim and Luca Fabian moved past Meyer/Kourkina, 6-3.
The Commodores answered in singles, No. 28 Georgia Drummy moved past freshman Isabella Harvison, 6-4, 6-4 and Marcella Cruz who downed freshman Sasha Gorchanyuk in straight sets. Moments later, Fabian tied things up at 2-2.
Alabama’s Alba Cortina Pou won 6-0, 7-6, win over Emma Kurtz. The Dores responded with victory from No. 18 Christina Rosca on court one. Then Vandy clinched the match in straight sets to seal the 4-3 win.
Alabama travels to No. 50 Auburn March 14 for a noon match.
